In response to a recent story on KSL Channel 5 the Homestead Resort would like to clarify our stance on the red fox family that is located near the Homestead Golf Course. Due to the pastoral nature of the surrounding area and the Homestead’s desire to maintain the ecological balance of the area, the Homestead Resort normally has accepted damage and losses from wildlife such as red foxes in the area. However this year due to an increased population of red foxes the Homestead has sustained numerous losses in both the waterfowl and feral cat population. The red foxes which are located on a neighboring property to the Homestead are no longer afraid of humans and are beginning to hunt during the daylight hours creating a safety risk to guests. Previous years the foxes have run out of food options causing them to relocate to the wooded areas. This year it was reported the foxes are being fed by citizens of Midway disrupting their natural habits and making it necessary for the Homestead to explore other options to protect guests. The Homestead is proactively seeking humane options to ensure the safety of both domestic animals and individuals visiting the resort. To assist in remedying this issue the Homestead Resort encourage the citizens of Midway who care about wildlife to avoid disturbing the ecological balance by feeding and encouraging the foxes to become dependant on people for their food.
